Moving Around Cesena
Cesena has two motorway exits: Cesena and Cesena Nord, both providing convenient access to the city center and the University Campus. `
The most efficient and environmentally sustainable way to move around Cesena is on foot. The city is compact and easily walkable: reaching the University Campus from the city center generally takes approximately 20–30 minutes, depending on the starting point. In addition, the mild temperatures in September make walking a pleasant opportunity to explore the historic center and its surroundings.
When walking is not feasible, several alternative transportation options are available, including bicycle rental, public transportation, ride-hailing services, and taxis.
Bicycle Rental
Due to local regulations, bicycle rental services are available exclusively through authorized shops. Free-floating services (such as shared bicycles or electric scooters) are currently not operating in the city.
However, several authorized rental shops offer bicycles at competitive rates. Cycling is one of the most practical and convenient ways to move around Cesena, thanks to the relatively flat terrain and short distances between key locations.
Public Transportation
Cesena’s public transportation network is operated by START Romagna and includes several urban bus lines connecting the city center with residential areas and the University Campus.
In particular, Bus Line 6 connects the city center with the Cesena Campus and is a convenient option for daily commuting.
Tickets and Fares
Bus tickets can be purchased through the following methods:
- On board the bus, where available (contactless payment supported on selected vehicles). More information: https://www.startromagna.it/en/tickets/startap-emv-system/
- Via authorized mobile applications, such as: MooneyGo (suggested from us), Roger, and DropTicket. These applications allow the purchase of single tickets as well as multi-day passes through QR codes. For example, the "Romagna SmartPass 7 days" may be a suitable option for conference participants, as it allows unlimited travel on all urban lines during its validity period.
Electronic tickets must be validated on board by scanning the QR code using the validation device available on the bus. More information: https://www.startromagna.it/en/tickets/electronic-tickets-purchase/
Fare Zones
The bus system operates on a zone-based fare structure. Each zone corresponds to a specific fare.
Travel within the city center and to the University Campus falls under Zone 1. A Zone 1 ticket is sufficient for travel within this area. Traveling beyond Zone 1 requires the purchase of a ticket covering additional zones at a higher fare.
Concerning Zone 1 tickets, the relevant option suitable for the event are the following:
- Single ticket for Zone 1: valid for 60 minutes after validation on-board. Price: 1,50€
- 10 Rides Carnet for Zone 1: allows 10 single-ticket rides with the same QR code. Price: 14,00€
